Budget Benz Edition.
also why the hell is it called a 230? it has a 1.8 engine making about 190hp. I actually always assumed these had 2.3l engines. Or iguess it would make since if I had 230hp, but neither of those are the case. Germans why you no use logic in your numerical naming?

Ugh straight garbage right there. No thanks! I’ll spend 2 grand on the nicest W124 around and drive by the shop that thing is perpetually in to laugh

They’re not bad, really not much to go wrong. But they’re not too exciting to drive either, the power is not terrible but it won’t blow your head back by any means, to be generous. Also the handling is fairly average. But, they are nice enough cars. One of my friends had one, he liked it, but not enough to keep him from buying a C55 only a few months later.

Take it to a certified Mercedes dealer for inspection and if it passes, awesome deal. If not, run away.

this is what makes it tempting, right? :p

Stay away. In 2002, my parents got a new C240... and it was a nightmare. Electronics, transmission, stupid things here and there...

‘m sure it would be exciting coming from a 2001 Civic EX lol.

Haha, this is true. It’s not a bad car at all, there is power to be had too with a pulley and tune. And the engine note is interesting. The interior is fairly solid, feels like it cost as much as it did back when it was new. And they definitely are good-looking cars.

I think every single one of those was grey market too. Still, would rather an auto than this crap that car will give you. I know someone with a sport in this chassis and it is a steaming pile. Same color. Eats tires, front suspension is always falling apart, interior doesnt wear well, and it is just dated. Look elsewhere, or bring a manual W124 over for that cost or less

also it looks like this one is a “sport” model I wonder what that package adds

The Sport (sometimes called the C230 SS) adds the body kit, I believe slightly stiffer suspension, bigger and wider wheels + tires, and better brakes as well. Might be a couple other things but I can’ t remember.

Biggest problem these have is probably timing chains and adjusters. otherwise pretty decent.

It’s going to be luxurious compared to a Civic. You’ll think you’re driving your living room around town.
Come to think of it, you’d pay more than that for a couple of La-Z-Boy chairs. So, hey, budget living room upgrade.

1.8 with supercharger makes 2.3 liters worth of power?

Not by Honda standards. Lol.

My guess is C180 just sounds too cheap.

Yes, they estimate the power of the compressor to make it a 2.3. They do that with the turbo engines as well... BMW does this too, now its false advertising.
